The Ensi parvi 3 and 5 project in Vuosaari examines how biodiversity can be preserved in a construction project.

Greenest of the Green Vuosaari

In A-Kruunu’s Ensi parvi 3 and 5 project, a new kind of green solution by the name the Greenest of the Green Vuosaari is created for an apartment block site. The vision is to make nature part of urban living and develop a model that can serve as an example for future urban planning.

The project is concretely visible in daily life, for example, in the paradise rooftops of each building, which provide residents with a place for calming down in the middle of the city. The yard areas will also be designed to be exceptionally natural: some of the plants removed from the plot have been stored and will be replanted on the site and made part of the yard and the green roofs towards the end of construction.

A-Kruunu will have 121 rental homes built in the area, and they will be completed in stages during spring 2027. The site is designed by Arkworks Architects, and Arkta Reponen is the contractor with overall responsibility for the construction. The project also involves long-term research conducted at the University of Helsinki to produce information on the impacts of the greenness of the urban environment. The Greenest of the Green concept has been developed by Taina Suonio, who is a member of the research team.

When completed, the block will provide homes in which modern living and an environmentally friendly approach go hand in hand. This is an important opening for both Helsinki and other cities as it shows how urban living that is green and supports wellbeing can be implemented in practice.
